Match Report - Matt Smyth

Stoke U/15s travel to Bovey to play there second league and the quarter-final leg of the cup in a double header.

After sending Aberdeen Angus to toss up due to the late arrival of captain numb-nuts, which he most likely picked up from the 1st team captain, Stoke lost the toss and were put in the field.

Things were looking good after Aberdeen started off with a maiden, and even after capi JT went for 6 off his 1st delivery and 10 for the over, Angus pulled it back again with yet another maiden. This was followed by an over going for 16 including a drop catch of Guy Paxman who went on to get 40 off 23 balls.. Once Paxman retired Stoke slow the rate down with some good blowing from the spinning duo of Escott and Ansley, each picking up one wicket.. Dan the pick of the bowlers with 1-15 in 4..

With Rob Harris picking up two wickets, one of opening bat G.Ames who was looking set. Stoke with 10 boys and gilrs for the last 4 overs, as Adam came off with a swollen thumb went attempting to take a high one. A few more blows from Jonty Woods (31) and Ben Roberts(17*) Bovey made their way to a respectable 145 in their 20.

Spirits were high even thou it was not their best bowling performance, a attribute the 1st could really do with. Stoke opened with The Classic Danni boy and BOOM BOOM Harris, two text book cover drives later from Dan, Stoke were up on the run rate 9 off the 1st over. In the 5th over Stoke on 23 off 4.1 overs, way behind the rate Boom Harris misses the next 4 deliveries,  23 off 4.5, everyone thinking the same thing just get some bat on it, on the last ball they got a single, which was to be the turning point later.. BOOM BOOM  1 over and 22 runs later Stoke were back on top, Which was not for long as Harris(25) lost his wicket with Stoke on 51. Angus joined Dan and the two rebuilt the innings with ones and twos and the odd boundary from Escott. Dan finished his innings with two consecutive fours and retired(43*) Captain JT joined the party straight away by hitting a four on his 1st and 3rd delivery he faced. With TJ hitting fours for fun Aberdeen rotating the strike, Stoke were looking good, but still behind the rate. Angus(18) must of realised as he started to swing across the line, hitting one four and getting bowled 2 balls later. Seb the Albie Morkel of the side wasted no time getting 14 off 9, getting bowl to one that kept low.

Sarah join JT, 23 need off 21 balls, Sarah off the mark straight away with a good quick single, JT hits a four get a single and keeps the strike. 17 needed off 3 overs.. easy task with the two out in the middle and with the likes of Jamie Taylor and Rob Harris still to get in. JT comes down the wicket 1st ball connects and a six takes off any remaining pressure, a wide and then with lighting Sarah out there they ran 3 twos, needing 4 to win JT swipes across the line and the ball finds the gap and races away for the winning runs.

Well done to the Under 15s who showed a lot of guts and heart out there as the take 25 points for the league and advance to the semi finals of the cup.
